Welcome to Oak Hill
The City of Oak Hill is the southern most city in Southeast Volusia County and is the least developed of the three communities, comprising 10.5 square miles and a population of 1,200.
Named for its abundance of trees, the city lies along the beautiful Indian River.
The town is rich in history, bird life and subtropical flora. Citrus groves were planted beginning in 1865, and commercial fishing began in 1908.
The beauty and charm of the Oak Hill community is enhanced by lovely 19th century homes.
Incorporated in 1963, Oak Hill's form of government is Mayor Commission, with each commissioner functioning as head of a municipal department.
Oak Hill lived by fishing the river and growing citrus crops. Recent restrictions in the use of nets all but destroyed the local fishing industry with but a few surviving with cast nets.
Oak Hill's limited commercial base from enterprise along US 1, automobile service and a small swimming pool manufacturer barely supports the small community.
Today it's "bedroom" city with commuting north and south the norm.
Oak Hill is located South of New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater, and borders the Canaveral National Seashore, and is close to the Kennedy Space Center.
